About the Compound Interest calculator
Compound interest is interest earned on both your original money and on the interest it has already earned. The more often interest is compounded, and the longer you stay invested, the faster your money grows.
How to use it
- Move the sliders, or type a value into each box.
- Watch the results and chart update as you go.
- Try different assumptions to see what changes the outcome most, then talk to us about a plan.
The formula
A = P × (1 + r ÷ f)f × t
- P: principal
- r: annual interest rate
- f: compounding periods per year
- t: time in years
Example
₹1,00,000 at 8% for 10 years, compounded quarterly, grows to about ₹2,20,804. Compounded yearly, it would be ₹2,15,892.
Compound Interest Calculator: common questions
Simple interest is paid only on your original amount. Compound interest is also paid on interest already earned, so it grows faster over time.
More frequent compounding adds interest to your balance sooner, so the next period's interest is slightly higher. The effect grows with higher rates and longer periods.
